Monumento a la Independencia
The Angel of Independence is the monument on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, inaugurated by Porfirio Díaz in 1910 for the centennial of the start of the War of Independence. The golden statue of the winged Victory that crowns the column toppled during the earthquake of July 28, 1957, and was restored the following year.
Be careful not to mix up the dates: 1910 is when the monument was inaugurated, and 1957 is when the angel fell. It withstood the great earthquake of 1985.
