Castillo de Chapultepec

Built in the viceregal era atop Chapulín Hill, the castle served as a military academy and as the residence of Emperor Maximilian and several presidents, and today it houses the National Museum of History. In 1847 it was the site of the Niños Héroes’ defense against the United States army.

It is considered the only royal castle in the Americas, having been the residence of sovereigns.
