Premio Miguel de Cervantes

The Cervantes Prize, awarded annually by Spain’s Ministry of Culture, is the most prestigious literary award in the Spanish language, often called the ‘Nobel of Hispanic letters’. Seven Mexicans have won it: Octavio Paz (1981), Carlos Fuentes (1987), Sergio Pitol (2005), José Emilio Pacheco (2009), Elena Poniatowska (2013), Fernando del Paso (2015), and Gonzalo Celorio (2025).

Don’t confuse it with the Nobel Prize in Literature, which only one Mexican, Octavio Paz, has received.
