Los relámpagos de agosto

Jorge Ibargüengoitia (1928–1983), from Guanajuato, was one of Mexico’s sharpest satirical writers. His 1964 novel The Lightning of August (Relámpagos de agosto) pokes fun at the self-important memoirs of the generals of the Mexican Revolution.

Don’t confuse it with The Underdogs (Los de abajo) by Mariano Azuela, the classic serious novel of the Revolution. Ibargüengoitia died in a plane crash in Spain in 1983.
