La región más transparente

Carlos Fuentes (1928–2012) was one of Mexico’s greatest novelists and a leading figure of the Latin American Boom. La región más transparente (1958), his first novel, is a sweeping portrait of Mexico City society after the Revolution; its title echoes a famous description of the Valley of Mexico as ‘the most transparent region of the air’, popularized by Alfonso Reyes.

Fuentes won the Cervantes Prize in 1987. Don’t confuse him with Juan Rulfo, the author of Pedro Páramo.
