Amparo Dávila

Amparo Dávila (1928–2020) was a Mexican short-story writer from Zacatecas, admired for eerie, unsettling tales such as ‘El huésped’. The prize that bears her name, convened by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) together with the Government of San Luis Potosí, is one of Mexico’s most important awards for the short story.

Don’t confuse it with INBAL’s novel prize, named after José Rubén Romero, or with the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, which is awarded by a different organization.
