Tratados de Córdoba

The Treaty of Córdoba was signed on August 24, 1821, in Córdoba, Veracruz, by Agustín de Iturbide and Juan O’Donojú, the last high official Spain sent to govern New Spain. The document recognized New Spain as an independent empire, consummating the independence proclaimed months earlier in the Plan de Iguala.

Spain’s government, however, refused to ratify the treaty and did not formally recognize Mexican independence until 1836.
