Ignacio Allende

Allende was a criollo military officer from San Miguel el Grande — today San Miguel de Allende, renamed in his honor — and one of the first conspirators for independence. After being captured at Acatita de Baján, Allende, Hidalgo, Juan Aldama, and Mariano Jiménez were executed in Chihuahua in 1811, and their heads were displayed on the corners of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas in Guanajuato.

Don’t confuse this first generation of insurgents with José María Morelos, who took over the leadership of the movement and was executed later, in 1815.
