Conjura de Valladolid

In 1809, criollo conspirators in Valladolid (today Morelia, Michoacán) planned to create a governing congress in New Spain that would rule in the name of King Fernando VII, who had been deposed by Napoleon’s invasion of Spain. The conspiracy was discovered before it could act.

Though it failed, the Valladolid conspiracy was an important precursor of the Querétaro conspiracy and the outbreak of the War of Independence in 1810; do not confuse it with later documents such as the Plan of Iguala (1821).
