What was the Plan de Casa Mata about?

The Plan de Casa Mata was proclaimed on February 1, 1823, near Veracruz, by General Antonio López de Santa Anna and other military leaders who rose up against Emperor Agustín de Iturbide. It demanded the restoration of Congress and led to Iturbide’s abdication, opening the way to the federal republic established by the Constitution of 1824.

Do not confuse it with the Plan de Iguala (1821), by which Iturbide himself proclaimed independence, or with the Plan de Ayutla (1854), which was directed against Santa Anna.
