Voto de los mexicanos residentes en el extranjero

For decades, Mexican citizens living outside the country could not participate in elections. A 2005 reform to the electoral law finally allowed them to vote from abroad, and the right was exercised for the first time in the presidential election of July 2006.

This matters especially because millions of Mexicans live abroad, above all in the United States. Don’t confuse 2005, the year the law was approved, with 2006, the year the first votes from abroad were actually cast.
