Venustiano Carranza

Venustiano Carranza, then governor of Coahuila, organized the Constitutionalist Army in 1913 through the Plan of Guadalupe, to overthrow Victoriano Huerta after the murder of President Francisco I. Madero. As “First Chief” of the movement, Carranza later convened the congress that drafted the Constitution of 1917 and became president of Mexico.

Generals such as Álvaro Obregón fought within the Constitutionalist ranks, but its leader was Carranza. He was assassinated in 1920 in Tlaxcalantongo, Puebla.
