Tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed on February 2, 1848, ended the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. Under its terms Mexico lost more than half of its territory to the United States, including present-day California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona, in exchange for a payment of 15 million pesos.

Do not confuse it with the 1853 Treaty of La Mesilla (the Gadsden Purchase), a later, smaller sale under Santa Anna of a strip of land in what is now southern Arizona and New Mexico.
