Sentimientos de la Nación

Sentimientos de la Nación (Sentiments of the Nation) is a 23-point program that José María Morelos y Pavón presented to the Congress of Chilpancingo on September 14, 1813. Besides declaring America’s independence, it demanded the permanent abolition of slavery and of the caste system, and it inspired the Constitution of Apatzingán of 1814. Don’t confuse Morelos, the author of this document, with Miguel Hidalgo, who launched the independence movement with the Grito de Dolores in 1810.
