Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada

At the time, the president of the Supreme Court was the legal successor to the presidency, and Lerdo de Tejada held that post when Juárez died in office. He raised the Reform Laws to constitutional rank and gave Paseo de la Reforma its current name.

He was ousted in 1876 by Porfirio Díaz’s Plan of Tuxtepec, which opened the era of the Porfiriato.
