Porfiriato

Railroad expansion was the hallmark of Porfirian modernization: it connected mines, ports, and cities and attracted foreign investment, mostly American and British. Track grew from about 640 kilometers in 1876 to nearly 19,000 by 1910.

It mainly benefited elites and export companies, however, feeding the discontent that led to the Revolution.
