Plan de Ayala

The Plan of Ayala was proclaimed by Emiliano Zapata in 1911, after he broke with President Francisco I. Madero for moving too slowly on land reform. It demanded the restitution of lands taken from villages and peasants by haciendas, and it became the banner of the Zapatista movement under the slogan “Land and Liberty.”

Don’t confuse it with the Plan of San Luis, Madero’s 1910 plan that called for the uprising against Porfirio Díaz, or with the Plan of Guadalupe, Carranza’s 1913 plan against Victoriano Huerta.
