Pancho Villa

The revolutionary known as Pancho Villa was born José Doroteo Arango Arámbula in 1878 in San Juan del Río, Durango. As an outlaw he adopted the name Francisco Villa, and during the Revolution he became famous as commander of the División del Norte, earning the nickname “the Centaur of the North.”

Villa was the great revolutionary leader of northern Mexico, while Emiliano Zapata led the agrarian movement in the south. Villa was assassinated in 1923 in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua.
