Moctezuma II

Moctezuma Xocoyotzin, also known as Moctezuma II, ruled the Mexica empire from 1502 and received Hernán Cortés in Tenochtitlan on November 8, 1519. He was later taken prisoner by the Spaniards and died in 1520, during the unrest that preceded the Noche Triste.

Don’t confuse him with Moctezuma Ilhuicamina (Moctezuma I), a fifteenth-century ruler, nor with Cuauhtémoc, the last tlatoani, who led the final defense of Tenochtitlan in 1521.
