Miguel de la Madrid

Miguel de la Madrid was president of Mexico from 1982 to 1988. Two events that marked the country happened during his term: the earthquake of September 19, 1985, which devastated Mexico City and killed thousands of people, and the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

With that tournament, Mexico became the first country to host the World Cup twice, having already hosted it in 1970 under Gustavo Díaz Ordaz.
