Matanza de Tlatelolco

On October 2, 1968, government forces opened fire on a student demonstration at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco, Mexico City, killing an undetermined number of people, days before the opening of the 1968 Olympic Games. It happened during the presidency of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz and marked the climax of that year’s student movement.

The date is remembered with the phrase “October 2 is not forgotten.” Don’t confuse it with the Halconazo, or Corpus Christi massacre, another attack on students that occurred on June 10, 1971.
