Published in 1908, La sucesión presidencial en 1910 criticized Porfirio Díaz’s repeated re-elections and called for free elections and democracy. The book launched Madero’s Anti-Reelectionist movement, made him a national figure, and set the stage for the Revolution that broke out in 1910.

Don’t confuse the book with the Plan de San Luis, the revolutionary proclamation Madero issued in 1910 calling Mexicans to take up arms against Díaz.
