Historia de Veracruz

Veracruz holds the official title of “four times heroic” for defending Mexican sovereignty on four occasions: the surrender of the last Spanish stronghold at San Juan de Ulúa in 1825, the French bombardment during the Pastry War in 1838, the US invasion of 1847, and the US occupation of 1914.

Founded by Hernán Cortés in 1519, Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest and historically most important port.
