Escuela Nacional Preparatoria

After the Republic was restored, Benito Juárez’s government issued the Organic Law of Public Instruction on December 2, 1867, declaring elementary education free and compulsory. The same law created the National Preparatory School, organized by Gabino Barreda, which opened in 1868. Today it is Article 3 of the Constitution that guarantees secular, free, compulsory education.
