Benito Juárez

The title was conferred by the Congress of Colombia in 1865 in recognition of his defense of Mexican sovereignty against the French intervention. Juárez, of Zapotec origin, was president from 1858 to 1872 and championed the Reform Laws separating church and state.

His most famous phrase, “Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace,” is another exam favorite.
