Which president created the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN)?

The Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) is Mexico’s leading public institution of technical education, created in 1936 during the government of President Lázaro Cárdenas, with the engineer Juan de Dios Bátiz among its main promoters. Its motto is “La Técnica al Servicio de la Patria” (Technology at the Service of the Homeland).

Cárdenas (president from 1934 to 1940) is the same president who expropriated the oil industry in 1938. Do not confuse the IPN with the UNAM, a much older university that gained its autonomy in 1929.
