Política de México

Mexico is a federal republic, so public power is organized in three levels (also called orders) of government: federal, state and municipal. The municipality, regulated by Article 115 of the Constitution, is the basic unit of territorial organization; in Mexico City the equivalent units are the alcaldías. Don’t confuse the three levels of government with the three branches of power — executive, legislative and judicial — which exist within each level.
