Poder Judicial de la Federación (México)

The Judicial Branch of the Federation interprets the law and settles disputes; at its head is the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Mexico’s highest court. Below it work the federal circuit courts and district courts, while the Electoral Tribunal resolves disputes over elections.

Note that recent constitutional reforms have reorganized the judiciary: a 2021 reform converted the unitary circuit courts into appellate collegiate courts, and the 2024 judicial reform introduced the popular election of judges and replaced the Federal Judiciary Council with new disciplinary and administrative bodies.
