Partido Revolucionario Institucional

Founded in 1929 as the PNR and renamed PRI in 1946, the party won every presidential election for more than seven decades. Its hegemony ended in 2000, when Vicente Fox of the PAN won the presidency, the country’s first peaceful transfer of power in modern history.
