Roberto Velasco Álvarez was named Secretary of Foreign Affairs by President Claudia Sheinbaum on April 1, 2026, succeeding Juan Ramón de la Fuente. A career diplomat trained in law and public policy, he previously served as the ministry’s undersecretary for North America.

The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) conducts Mexico’s foreign policy and oversees its embassies and its large network of consulates, especially in the United States.
