Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social
The IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social) was founded in 1943, during the presidency of Manuel Ávila Camacho. It provides medical care, hospitals, pensions, and social security mainly to private-sector workers and their families, and it is the largest social security institution in Latin America.
Do not confuse it with the ISSSTE, a separate institute created in 1959 that provides similar services to government (state) workers.
