Where is Palenque?

Palenque is an ancient Maya city surrounded by tropical jungle in northern Chiapas, and one of the most important archaeological sites of the Maya civilization. Its Temple of the Inscriptions held the tomb of the ruler Pakal the Great, discovered in 1952, and the site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Do not confuse it with Maya sites in other states, such as Chichén Itzá and Uxmal in Yucatán, or Tulum in Quintana Roo.
