Sierra Madre Occidental

The Sierra Madre Occidental runs parallel to the Pacific and the Sierra Madre Oriental parallel to the Gulf of Mexico, with the central plateau between them. The Sierra Madre del Sur crosses Guerrero and Oaxaca. In addition, the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt cuts across the center of the country and holds the great volcanoes, such as Popocatépetl and Pico de Orizaba.
