Popocatépetl

Popocatépetl, affectionately called ‘El Popo’ or ‘Don Goyo,’ is one of Mexico’s most active volcanoes and its second-highest peak, at about 5,400 meters. It stands where the State of Mexico, Morelos, and Puebla meet, next to the dormant Iztaccíhuatl; legend portrays the pair as a warrior watching over his sleeping beloved. Don’t confuse it with Pico de Orizaba, the country’s highest mountain.
