León (México)
León, in the state of Guanajuato, is the largest city of the Bajío, the fertile lowland region of central Mexico. Its nickname, the Pearl of the Bajío, reflects its economic importance; the city is famous above all for its leather and shoemaking industry.
Do not confuse this nickname with Guadalajara’s: that city is called the Pearl of the West (or Perla Tapatía).
