Golfo de California

The Sea of Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, is the body of water that separates the Baja California peninsula from the Mexican mainland. Its rich waters attract sea lions, whales, dolphins and hundreds of fish species; Jacques Cousteau famously called it “the aquarium of the world”.

Its islands and protected areas are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don’t confuse it with the Gulf of Mexico, which lies on the country’s east coast.
