Celaya

Celaya is a city in the state of Guanajuato, in the Bajío, the fertile lowland region of central Mexico that has long been an agricultural and industrial heartland. Its location at the eastern entrance to the region earned it the nickname “la puerta de oro del Bajío”, the golden gate of the Bajío.

Celaya is also famous for cajeta, a caramel spread made from goat’s milk, and for the 1915 Battle of Celaya, in which Álvaro Obregón defeated Pancho Villa during the Revolution.
