Cañón del Sumidero

Sumidero Canyon is a spectacular gorge carved by the Grijalva River in Chiapas, with nearly vertical walls that rise as much as 1,000 meters above the water. A national park near Tuxtla Gutiérrez, it is so emblematic that it appears on the Chiapas coat of arms, and boat tours through it depart from the colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo.
