Buñuelo

Buñuelos are thin discs of wheat-flour dough fried until crisp and then dusted with sugar and cinnamon or drenched in piloncillo (unrefined cane sugar) syrup. They are especially popular in December, sold at Christmas fairs, posadas and town festivals all over Mexico.

Don’t confuse them with churros, another fried wheat-dough sweet: churros are piped into ridged sticks, while buñuelos are flattened into large, brittle rounds.
