Banco de México
The Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the country’s central bank, was founded on September 1, 1925 during the presidency of Plutarco Elías Calles. It is the sole issuer of Mexico’s currency and has been constitutionally autonomous from the government since 1994.
Don’t confuse its founding with the 1982 nationalization of private commercial banks, which was decreed by President José López Portillo.
