The Tarahumara, who call themselves Rarámuri, are an Indigenous people who still live in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico, and are famous worldwide as extraordinary long-distance runners. They are one of Mexico’s many living Indigenous peoples.
By contrast, ancient civilizations such as the Olmecs, the Toltecs and the builders of Teotihuacan disappeared centuries before the Spanish conquest.
