Lupita Jones

María Guadalupe ‘Lupita’ Jones, born in Mexicali, Baja California, won the Miss Universe crown in 1991, becoming the first Mexican to do so. She later founded and directed the national pageant organization Mexicana Universal.

Mexico has since won Miss Universe twice more — Ximena Navarrete in 2010 and Andrea Meza in 2020 — so be careful not to confuse them with the first winner.
