Kikapú

The Kickapoo originally lived in the Great Lakes region of what is now the United States. In the nineteenth century, a group settled in Coahuila, where the Mexican government granted them land at El Nacimiento, near Múzquiz, in exchange for helping defend the northern frontier.

They are unusual among Mexico’s Indigenous peoples because their presence in the country dates from the 1800s rather than pre-Hispanic times, and many families still move regularly between Coahuila and the United States.
