Jarocho

Jarocho is the popular nickname for the people and culture of Veracruz, especially the port city and the surrounding Sotavento region. It appears in expressions like son jarocho, the local musical style whose most famous song is “La Bamba.”

Mexico is full of such regional nicknames: tapatíos are from Guadalajara, regiomontanos from Monterrey, and chilangos from Mexico City.
