Emiliano Zapata

The slogan sums up the peasant struggle for the return of their lands, set out in the 1911 Plan of Ayala. Although the phrase originated in Ricardo Flores Magón’s press, it became forever identified with Zapata and his movement in Morelos. Don’t confuse it with “Effective suffrage, no reelection,” Francisco I. Madero’s motto.
