Jorge Negrete

Jorge Negrete (1911–1953), known as “El Charro Cantor” (The Singing Charro), was the Golden Age film star who embodied the charro — the elegant Mexican horseman — in movies like ¡Ay, Jalisco, no te rajes! A trained opera baritone, he became a symbol of Mexican identity at home and abroad.

He is often mentioned alongside Pedro Infante, the other great singing idol of the era; this question, however, refers to Negrete, whose very nickname was “El Charro Cantor”.
