The Golden Age of Mexican cinema was the period, roughly from the mid-1930s to the late 1950s, when Mexico’s film industry became one of the most successful in the world. Its stars became beloved national icons whose movies and songs are still known throughout Latin America.

Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete were singing charro idols who starred in ranchera films, while Sara García became famous as the quintessential grandmother of Mexican cinema. Other stars of the era include María Félix, Dolores del Río, and the comedian Cantinflas.
