Alfonso Cuarón

Alfonso Cuarón (born 1961 in Mexico City) became the first Mexican to win the Academy Award for Best Director, for Gravity (2013), and won again for Roma (2018), a black-and-white portrait of his childhood neighborhood in Mexico City that also won Best Foreign Language Film. His earlier work includes Y tu mamá también and Children of Men.

Don’t mix up the pairs of films: Cuarón won for Gravity and Roma, while Alejandro González Iñárritu won for Birdman and The Revenant.
