Xalapa-Enríquez
Xalapa (also spelled Jalapa, officially Xalapa-Enríquez) is the capital of the state of Veracruz. Known as the “Athens of Veracruz” for its cultural life, it is home to the Universidad Veracruzana and a renowned anthropology museum with Olmec colossal heads.
The classic trap here is the port city of Veracruz: it shares the state’s name and is bigger and more famous, but it is not the capital.
