Victoria de Durango

The capital of Durango shares its name with the state; its full official name is Victoria de Durango, in honor of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico’s first president, who was born in the state.

The region’s dramatic desert and sierra landscapes made Durango a famous filming location for Western movies, and the scorpion (alacrán) is a popular symbol of the city.
